創作理念／
在城市中，不該只有人類的需求被注意。
對於需要樹洞築巢的鳥類來說，城市欠缺足夠的樹洞，使鳥類難以在城市中生存。但是同樣身為城市住民的我們，卻缺乏對於鳥類的了解，在無意間增加牠們的困擾。
於是我們開始思索，如何提供鳥類足夠的繁衍居所，找到人與鳥的適切距離，並架起自然與城市交織的共生關係。
著眼於天然樹洞的不足，生生效法加裝義肢的方式，替既有的樹木安上人造樹洞；造型上參照樹枝的形態，低調地融入環境中，提供鳥類適當的保護；相反地，幾何的切面，以及鳥屋符碼的造型隱喻，使生生成為兼具無機與有機的混血存在。生生利用3D列印靈活的生產特性，生成出量樹打造，因鳥制宜的人造樹洞；而層層堆積的粗糙表面，也提供了苔蘚、附生植物生長的可能，使生生隨著時間融入環境，與樹木合為一體。透過內部安裝的無線攝影機，人們只需透過網頁與行動裝置，便能在適切的距離下，了解這群同樣生活在城市中的住民，開始想像一個友善包容所有生物的共生城市。
Urban is far from a friendly environment for birds that need tree holes to nest during the breeding seasons. Despite the fact that we dwell in the exactly same place, poorly do we know about our beautiful neighbour, and what makes it even worse, we somewhat make negative effect on them without noticing it.
Based on this, we try to rebuild a relationship between man and bird by embodying the mutuality relationship between natural environment and manmade structure in city.
As prosthetic is to the people, so is Mutual is to the trees. Mutual is a man-made tree hole, aka birdhouse, that bears a close resemblance to the shape of the branches with the aid of 3D scan/print technique in order to better blend into the environment. 1mm-layer-FDM-printed surface is itself a good potential for moss and epiphytes to grow upon. We’re willing to see the different pattern thus created by the natural environment. The simplified facade and the pentagon, that is, the symbol of birdhouse, as a hint, remain the gap between the artificial and the natural.
Aiding with wireless technology, distance could be effectively shortened without making any unwelcome disturbance. Simply tapping and swapping, people can know much more about the lovely flocks of resident in the city via mobile, tablet and desktop.

- 想藉由作品傳達什麼概念或想解決什麼樣的問題？
張：我們發現在城市中，大家對於自然的想像是很貧乏的，每個人都聽過鳥叫聲，卻從未想過有這麼多的鳥類與我們一起生活在這座城市中。於是我們希望透過裝設鳥屋，讓那些苦於尋找樹洞的鳥兒可以有個居所，並試圖找到城市與自然共生的新狀態。
林：希望藉由生生來拉近人跟鳥的關係，並將城市、鳥、人連接起來；並希望改變人們慣有對於人造與自然壁壘分明的印象。 - 描述一下作品發想過程或發現問題的經過？
我們從觀察街道上的人事物開始，清潔工、廣告招牌人、玉蘭花販、流浪貓狗等等，而後便發覺，我們忽略了同樣生活在城市裡的鳥類（我們對同樣生活在城市街道上的鳥兒無感），於是我們就開始想：有沒有什麼是我們可以為他們做的。
